Bollywood Chic

The Mughal era began in the 1500s and spanned nearly two centuries. For the Maharajas of the time, the rarity of materials and audacious composition went hand-in-hand. Authoritative design flourished and the majestic creations then produced are still regarded as the most iconic and valuable of Indian jewels. Descendants and disciples of these artisans are celebrated keepers of the craft - many generations later.

For almost ten years during my tenure with jeweler to the stars, Harry Winston, I sat side-by-side with the late Ambaji Shinde. At the request of Mr. Winston, Shinde left his family in India and emigrated to America to become head designer for the House of Harry Winston. Shinde, as we called him, taught me about the Indian royals and their expressions of wealth and tradition through jewelry. This bold, brilliant bib necklace is the embodiment of his teachings; precious, bold, decadent, eclectic, exquisite, distinctive and deeply desirable.

I purchased this magnificent bib from an Indian family whom I have known for 30 years. The robin's egg blue color of the rare turquoise paired with warm sun-kissed champagne diamonds is unrivaled in it's beauty and is the epitome of Bollywood chic. Although decidedly decadent, this piece has been so versatile. I've worn it as the pièce de résistance with an Etro gown; the pop of perfection with white jeans and a white tank; and the dramatic showpiece with black leggings and a sexy camisole.
